Operation “I Feel Bad”
Kalamazoo, MI: On November 29, 2008, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers set up a sting operation in attempt to recover stolen property from an earlier Home Invasion that occurred in the 1000 block of Stafford St. An undercover officer was placed with the owner of the stolen property, while several other officers awaited the arrival of the suspect. A 26 year-old male from Kalamazoo arrived at the predetermined location.
The male was taken into custody for Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property and Extortion. The suspect advised officers on scene that he “felt bad” about wanting to sell the property back to the victim. This investigation stems from a burglary in the Westwood neighborhood. Stolen property was located in the stolen backpack, carried by the suspect. The stolen property was returned to the owner. In addition to the victim’s property, a stolen laptop was also recovered and is still being investigated. The 26-year-old male was lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Officers learned during the investigation that a second suspect was involved in the receiving and concealing of stolen property. Officers made contact at a residence in the 3500 block of Cranbrook Ave, in the Township of Kalamazoo. A search of that home did not yield any stolen property. The second individual was identified, but has not been arrested pending further investigation.
