KVET INVESTIGATES TWO METH LABS OVER WEEKEND

Kalamazoo, MI:  On the heels of the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team’s (KVET) July 4th media release reporting the investigation of four methamphetamine labs in three days, KVET officers were called in to investigate and dispose of two meth labs on Saturday, July 5, 2008, both in the City of Kalamazoo.   KVET officers certified in dismantling clandestine meth labs were called to both scenes, along with a private contractor that disposed of the hazardous materials.

• At approximately 1:50PM, patrol officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to a call of a possible meth lab in an apartment in the 300 block of W. Vine Street.  Officers subsequently located an active “one-pot” meth lab in the bedroom.  The Kalamazoo County Health Department was notified and will follow-up on the contamination levels within the structure.

Charges for Manufacturing Methamphetamine will be sought for a 38 year-old male and a 50 year-old female, both Kalamazoo residents.

• At approximately 7:20PM the same date, KDPS patrol officers responded to a meth lab that was discarded in the 2000 block of Reed Street.  A citizen found the remains of a “one-pot” meth lab while walking a dog along a trail.

Anyone with information regarding illegal drug activity is urged to contact KVET at 269-337-8880, Silent Observer at 269-343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com
